WIN A TRIP TO THE BRIGHTON MUSIC CONFERENCE
WIN A TRIP TO THE BRIGHTON MUSIC CONFERENCE!Acid pioneer DJ Pierre and more confirmed for final BMC line-upIssue:532The Brighton Music Conference (BMC) is only just over a week away, and excitement is building in the DANCE MUSIC industry in the UK for the inaugural south coast event.
BMC — on April 11th and 12th — is aiming to become the UK's answer to the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), and the final line-up is looking super-strong. And DJ Mag can offer an exclusive prize to win full conference tickets to the two-day event — plus two nights accommodation in the swanky My Hotel in the centre of the city.
And for good measure, we're throwing in a £100 voucher for a dinner for two at the Coal Shed restaurant on Boyces Street, near the conference VENUE (The Dome). To win, just answer the competition question below.
DJ Pierre is the latest addition to the line-up for BMC. Pierre's work with Phuture, messing around with a Roland TB-303 to create early acid tracks such as the seminal cut from 1987 (below), was crucial to the development of acid house, and he'll be sure to talk about his history, the 303, his 'wild pitch' sound and more during his interview onstage with DJ Mag's Carl Loben.
Keynote interviews will also be staged with Eats Everything, Martyn Ware from the Human League (interviewed by Dave Haslam from the Hacienda), Audiofly and AND.ID fro Mobilee, while Darius Syrossian, Jimpster, Skream, Dave Clarke and Paul Woolford have all recently been confirmed to DJ at the event. They join DJ Spen, John '00' Fleming, Steve Mac and Sebo K, who were already announced.
BMC has a plethora of interesting panels on topics such as DJ agents, piracy, maximising revenue streams, social media, royalty distribution, image rights, syncs, PR, publishing, the history of ELECTRONIC MUSIC

Dan Kavanaghs guide to surviving on tour
Read more about Dan Kavanagh's guide to surviving on tour at MusicRadar.com As drummer for touraholics like Jamie Lenman and Godsized, Dan Kavanagh knows a thing or two about life on the road. Here we start a new series in which Dan tells you all you need to know about surviving on the road. So like many before you, your band is going on the road. Well done, this is a huge step to becoming a successful MUSIC an. But what will it be like and how do you prepare? Hopefully some of the things I've learned along the way might help you out, as proper planning can make your life a whole lot easier. This is a list of things I wish I could've read ten years ago. Cost You need to be ready for the price of your van, fuel, crossing charges, toll roads, merch, accommodation and food. That adds up fast. Advance the shows This is contacting each VENUE finding out who your point of contact is and getting all the details re load in, soundcheck, stage times etc. This is also your opportunity to mention any technical requirements your band may have. This is pretty standard stuff, but can build a relationship that makes the show day a lot easier. It also makes it harder for promoters to then stiff you on the rider if you have one (always specify the size of the bottle of JD!) The ride Make sure you've got what you need to be comfortable in the back of the van. A travel pillow is an absolute essential for long hauls, maybe also a blanket if it's winter and your van's drafty. I either like to sit up front so I can get a good look at the places I'm traveling through, or if I'm in the back I just like to zone out with my iPod. That's actually one of my favourite things in the world, and I save up records if there's a tour on the horizon. Get settled in, watch the world go by and get inspired by some new album on the way to a show - what could be better than that?! Have your passport on you, not in a bag in the back. Survival It can be brutal out there. A lot of people, small spaces. Make

Londons new concert hall project has stalled – and its no great loss
Arguments in favour left many unconvinced, and with his Barbican concerts Simon Rattle has already showed the difference he can make to a VENUE s sound Just a few months ago, the momentum behind the plans for a new concert hall in the City of London seemed irresistible. Conceived as a world-class new home for the LSO, as the orchestra looked forward to a new era under its incoming principal conductor, Simon Rattle, it was a VENUE that would attract the cream of visiting orchestras from around the world. The scheme to build the new hall on the current site of the Museum of London had been given the green light in a feasibility study undertaken by the former ARTIST c

Tyler the Creator Nearly Incites a Riot at SXSW
Does Tyler, the Creator thrive on chaos, or does he thrive on subjecting other people to it? There's a difference. One tendency you tend to associate with artists, the other masochists. To wit: During his headlining spot at the Converse/Thrasher "Death Match" at the Scoot Inn Thursday afternoon, Tyler incited hundreds of people outside the already-packed venue to break down the gates, nearly causing a riot just hours after

Florence the Machine review – gungho diva has OTT down to a T
Royal Festival Hall, LondonShe can’t fetch a bottle of water without twirling around and waving her arms, but Florence Welch’s theatricality proves powerful as she performs tracks from new album High as HopeIn the multiplatinum, in-at-number-one, Glastonbury-headlining world Florence + the Machine inhabit, the Royal Festival Hall represents a low-key comeback gig after a couple of years’ absence. That said, low-key isn’t the phrase that immediately springs to mind when confronted with their performance. The stage is bedecked with so many flowers and so much foliage it looks less like the Royal Festival Hall than the Royal Horticultural Society spring show. The band numbers eight, including two keyboard players, two percussionists and a harpist who occasionally diversifies with glockenspiel, and the venue’s enormous pipe organ – usually concealed behind boards at the rear of the stage – is on display and primed for use during the encore. It’s intended as no slight on the organist to say it that doesn’t make much difference to the overall sound. One of the effects of cramming a band used to playing arenas into somewhere smaller is that they invariably sound immense, as if the venue is struggling to contain their sound. So it is tonight, which fits Florence + the Machine’s music. Their – well, her – stock-in-trade is high drama, heavy on the rumbling drums and roaring vocals. It says something that a song as breezily anthemic as 2015 single Ship to Wreck, complete with its Fleetwood Mac-like chorus, represents one of the more subdued moments. A handful of songs from the band’s forthcoming fourth album, High as Hope, seem to dial down the ostentation slightly – such things are obviously relative, but there is a folky simplicity about current single Sky Full of Song – at least until they get to 100 Years, a track so gung-ho in its theatrical swoops from gentle piano ballad to tom-tom pounding and violin scraping it makes the other gung-ho theatrical tracks they’ve come up

Beach House review – sonic adventures against a starlit sky
The Ritz, ManchesterThe Virginia duo deliver their echo-laden, Wurlitzer-whirling noise to a heaving venue in a slow-building dreampop spectacle“This one’s going to be in near darkness,” mutters the man on the door, and Beach House emerge in so much gloom that if one of them mislaid a contact lens, there would be a health and safety incident. It’s a typically unconventional entrance from a band who are doing things their way.As pop’s ever-baffling array of genres now ranges from skwee to (really) charred death, Baltimore’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally’s music doesn’t fit comfortably into any of them. Although their six albums have been labelled dreampop and shoegaze, neither tag quite captures their blend of the Cocteau Twins, 60s folk, the gentler side of My Bloody Valentine and the Ronettes’ wind-tunnel pop. 40 Reasons Londons Clubbing Scene Just Got Better
Finally! Some good news for London's clubbing scene. London's Studio Spaces E1 has secured a license to operate 40 nights of the year as a 24 hour licensed venue. What does that mean? It means 40 more insane parties to get down too!The news comes after a spate of gloomy looking outcomes with Fabric Nightclub coming close to the brink of closure due to drug related deaths and Plastic People deciding it was wise to call it a day after 20 years of operation with a fitting six hour set by Floating Points and Four Tet.The news was broken by venue promoters The Hydra who shared a statement about the exciting announcement:"Studio Spaces E1 and The Hydra have been working with Tower Hamlets authorities for the last two years to create a fully licensed, safe and reliable venue for people wanting to experience a late night music event. Great attention to detail has been placed with liaising with our neighbours and meeting the authorities requirements for a licensed premises."Well shit, wouldn't it be nice if Sydney got some good news too after our closures including pub and club institution The Flinders hotel that use to be owned by Bang Gang members?

4 Important Details That Should Never Be Left Out of Your Performance Contract
By Barry Heyman and Chris Tuthill on Sonicbids Blog A performance agreement is a deal that you, the performing artist, strike with a promoter or venue owner (also known as the purchaser).
