Solpara Vestibule
Solpara, a producer from New York and co-founder at Montreal's Booma Collective, takes inspiration from monotonous daily sounds on new EP Vestibule. The title track and "Rising," the ARTIST s sole contributions to the 12-inch (the other two are remixes), are lively and colourful in comparison to Solpara's past work.
Meant to be akin to the background noises one might hear at a train station, on "Vestibule" Solpara creates a patchwork of muffled, echoing voice-over announcements married to a simple house beat and synth sounds that evoke a finger running along the edge of a crystal glass; the listener is meant to strain to hear what is being said, and not quite being able to make it out, while the repetitive humming and hi-hat aspects create a unique sense of movement and ambiance that shift into "Rising," a more urgent continuation of the kick-off track.
Two remixes of opener "Vestibule" follow Solpara's creations. The first is by Voodoo Down Records co-founder L'estasi Dell'oro, a flurried, inverted version that gives the track a sort of tunnel sound, kicking up the tempo without losing sight of its original essence. Recently added Booma Collective ARTIST Belgium Lights gives a longer take on the track, widening it to nine minutes and sprinkling it with clamouring percussion, giving it new life in an alternate dream-state.

Frankie Knuckles obituary
Trailblazing American record producer and club DJ hailed as the Godfather of HouseDisco's revenge, was the way Frankie Knuckles, who has died aged 59 after a long period of ill health, mischievously described house, the style of music that was born in his club, the Warehouse in Chicago. The raw, machine-driven, four-to-the-floor kickdrum sound that Knuckles helped conceive went on to become one of the dominant forces in popular music over the next 30 years, upping the energy in dance clubs and earning him the tag Godfather of House. One of the most sought-after remixers in club music, he worked with scores of stars, including Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan and Diana Ross, found a fan in Barack Obama and gave his name to a Chicago street.Raised in the Bronx, New York, he grew up surrounded by music; Luther Vandross lived down the road. As a gay man, Knuckles was one of the early beneficiaries of a rapidly changing society and the nascent disco scene was a primary driver of those changes. His entry into the music industry began as a teenager when he and Larry Levan, his childhood friend and fellow DJ, worked for Nicky Siano at the Gallery in Manhattan, blowing up balloons and assisting Siano. His first DJ break was at Tee Scott's Better Days on West 49th Street, but he also did the lights and filled in for Levan at the Continental Baths.

Every Episode of Seinfeld Hits Hulu This June
by Megh Wright
The Hulu Upfront Presentation took place in New York this morning, and among the streaming networks announcements is the news that starting this June, Hulu will become the exclusive streaming home of all nine seasons of Seinfeld. There’s no question that Seinfeld has played a major role in TV history, which is why we cannot wait to make all episodes of the series available to stream for the first time ever on Hulu, said Hulu exec Craig Erwich. Whether you are an existing fan who just wants to relive your favorite moments over and over again, or are a new viewer who wants experience Seinfeld from the very beginning, Hulu will now be your destination to stream what has been dubbed as one of the greatest shows of all time. Added Seinfeld: I think all the media and social and digital capability makes the world a more annoying place. What reason would Kramer ever have to come in? You lose all those entrances, he could just text me. The whole show goes in the toilet right there.
The episodes which reportedly went to the streaming network at $700,000 each will be available to Hulu Plus subscribers, and Hulu is dropping the Plus from the name going forward, which will certainly make things confusing if they still offer content for non-subscribers.

Hercules and Love Affair Omnion
As originally seen on Exclaim.ca.On Hercules and Love Affair's fourth studio album, Omnion, Andy Butler and company cover way more ground than they did on previous releases — always a risky move. As an album wanders, more opportunities arise for a wrong turn. Omnion veers to a fault.
It's obvious that it's a different Hercules and Love Affair on this album from the opening title track, "Omnion." It sounds like an outtake from Arcade Fire's Reflektor era, as singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten's pleading vocals span a beat-light, synth-filled instrumental, like dance music conceived from an outside-the-genre perspective. It's a formula revisited on "Are You Still Certain," and it demonstrates the New York-based group's growth. Unfortunately, it's also symptomatic of the issues that plague the 11-song release. Not the least of Omnion's problems is that it represents change, but not for the best.
On several songs, including "Controller," "Wildchild" and "My Curse and Cure," Hercules and Love Affair wade back into familiar four-to-the-floor territory, fitting nicely with the back catalogue of the iconic Warner Music Group-owned Big Beat Records. Yet only the seventh track, "Lies," matches the charm of earlier releases. Gustaph's melancholic vocals overlay an instrumental that could've been conceived by an oddly sentient robot.
Omnion is Hercules and Love Affair's most mature album, but people have never turned to this group for introspective ballads. Now it's obvious why.

Blondies classic Heart of Glass caps RBMAs beatrepeat series
During the late '70s, detractors in New York City's underground music scene called Blondie "sellouts" when "Heart of Glass" became a smash hit. Max Graham Dance Music’s World Citizen Artist Exploration
Every genre had to start somewhere. House music laid down its roots in Chicago. Techno grew from the budding Detroit scene. But the actual art of DJing began hand-in-hand with the birth of hip-hop in New York City, way back in the mid-1980s. This budding East Coast scene saw the rise of artists like LL Cool J and Run-DMC, who back then were considered nothing more than "local bands." But there's one person no one could have guessed would rise alongside those legends. His name? Max Graham.
Graham got his start as a scratch DJ in the 80s, inspired more by the man behind the decks than the one with the microphone. Nowadays, he's known more as a driving force for diversity within trance music, throwing him a long way from his modest scratch roots. Calling him just a "trance artist" though wouldn't begin to describe his body of work. The post Max Graham: Dance Musics World Citizen (Artist Exploration) appeared first on Dance Music Northwest.
