Porches The House review – jaded romantic intricate synthpop
(Domino)Porches started out making bedroom-rock in 2010, but frontman Aaron Maine has since steered his project into sheeny synth territory. Their third album, The House, retains the polished introspection and cleansing water imagery of previous record Pool, but goes deeper into Maine’s exploration of tender emotions. This is while getting more stripped back and minimalist than ever, with an aimless, delicate immersiveness. There’s a vulnerable lightness that pervades the record, in spite of fleeting moments of jarring dissonance and numerous spiky DANCE tracks. Simple lyrics such as “I have no idea who I see in the mirror” (on By My Side) sound isolated in the mix, displaying a rawness perhaps explained by Maine writing lyrics from his journal entries, and recording most songs the day they were conceived. The result is an immediacy that revels in its shortcomings and errors. Continue reading...

Porches The House review – beguiling flawed dancewarmed pop
(Domino)Despite having graduated from dirge-like indie to downbeat but DANCE ble synthpop over the course of their first two albums, Porches (otherwise known as singular New Yorker Aaron Maine) don’t change tack again on their third. Instead, The House doubles down on Maine’s previous fusion of DANCE MUSIC and languid crooning, weaving house flavours into a record that can feel emotionally one-note, but sonically beguiling. Refreshingly, Maine largely eschews the increasingly wearisome tropes of contemporary synthpop (snappy drums, patchworks of treated vocal samples): opener Leave the House sees his listless vocal underlaid with a warm, pulsating synth line that recalls Robin S’s Show Me Love, while follow-up Find Me brings its DANCE music

When pop stars play pop stars…
As Lady Gaga’s silver-screen version of (almost) herself in a Star Is Born reaches cinemas, we look back at other reinventions, from Whitney as Rachel to Beyoncé as Deena‘Having something to say is one thing; having a way to make people listen is a whole other bag.” This is what an awestruck Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) tells fledgling singer-songwriter Ally, played by Lady Gaga, in the newest and shiniest remake of A Star Is Born. Premiering last month at Venice film festival to RAVE reviews – and early Oscars buzz for both Cooper and Gaga – it is, as Variety’s Owen Gleiberman put it, “a transcendent Hollywood movie”. As far as pop MUSIC is concerned, the messenger matters.Like the traditional Hollywood MUSIC l,
Porches Ruminate in Cars and PinkLit Swimming Pools in ‘Hour’ Video
New Yorks Aaron Maine sketches profound kaleidoscopic synth-pop as Porches, soundtracking romantic realists with the jangly wails of Headsgiving on 2013s charmingly lo-fi Slow Dance in the Cosmos. For his Domino Records debut, Pool, hes dropped the capitalization and period punctuation that characterized his projects earliest iteration on 2011s alternating snarled and strung-out Scrap and

Porches A SynthObsessed Songwriter Learns to Be Alone But Not Lonely
On "Be Apart," a morose synth-bit confessional from Porches' crepuscular new LP, Pool, it sounds like Aaron Maine is having a hard time making up his mind. "I wanna be apart," he sings, with the flat-yet-undulating intonation of a reluctant karaoke singer trying to nail a pop smash — first by himself, and then joined by the faint

So it seems that pk sound is kinda where it is at if you want a sweet dubstep show. The last like 3 shows I have been to barely had any bass at all and the claps and highs like that were overwhelming hahaha. Anyways it seems like pk sound is kinda where it's at. I am wondering if anybody knows of any good shows coming around NC or Maine where Ill really be feelin that bass and not blinking my eyes whenever there is a clap. I heard that Boogie T b2b Squnto tour was dialed right in, but missed that. PK sound too. O ya drum and bass too idc. Ik asheville might have some stuff coming up. Anybody know anything about that Rick and Morty rave, or the Phuturprimitive show? submitted by /u/pluto1998 [link] [comments]
