SMLE’s Remix of Michael Bublé Has Us “Feeling Good”
In the chaos of the world as we know it, it proves difficult to find that unique sound; the sound that separates itself from the rest. We have found just that; with SMLEs ELECTRONICA trap infused cover of Michael Buble?s Feeling Good. SMLEs silky voice slowly filters through an electric harp and soft strings. He []

Bugge Wesseltoft Somewhere in Between review – postjazz explorations
(Jazzland)Bugge Wesseltoft, the visionary Norwegian keyboardist, composer and producer, founded the Jazzland label in the 90s to document the avant-funky, post-Miles jazz world of young Oslo clubbers, and this double album celebrates 20 years of his New Conception of Jazz project, with singers Sidsel Endresen and Dhafer Youssef, saxist Joshua Redman, and guests from across jazz, world MUSIC and ELECTRONICA Though much of it is beats-based, Wesseltoft incorporates a swathe of idioms from soul-jazz to African choral and percussion sounds, Bill Evans-like solo piano jazz ballads, violin-led traditional folk songs, and loose postbop, inventively winding it all over straitlaced ELECTRO ics
Bear Hands You’ll Pay for This review – the notsodifficult third album
(Spensive Sounds)In an age of HYPE then quickly discarded BLOG sphere bands, Bear Hands are a cheering anachronism. They formed in 2006 but first found real success in 2014; their hit single Giants was a reward for resilience. You might assume that their songs are slowburners too, but the opposite is true. Their third album is dominated by hooky, disposable guitar and synth-pop, well suited to indie DANCEFLOOR ,

Sa Dingding The Butterfly Dream review – Chinese folkelectronica fusion for global pop market
(Blue Wrasse)This should have been an intriguing set. Sa Dingding is one of China’s most successful and unusual artists, a powerful singer who has specialised in reviving Chinese and Mongolian folk themes while mixing traditional instruments with electronica. And the producer of her new album is Karsh Kale, the New York-based tabla player who has worked with Anoushka Shankar. But this is not the China-India sound-clash that it could have been, even though Dingding plays the guzheng zither and morin khuur fiddle, and the Indian musicians include flautist Naveen Kumar and sitar player Azeem Ahmed Alvi. There are some strong songs here, but they are weakened by the overuse of electronica. The yelping Ding Ding Sa or clattering Yin and Yang are aimed at the global pop market, though the cool, sitar-backed Oriental Beauty and rousing finale, Good Luck Song, are reminders of Dingding’s versatile, often acrobatic vocals. Vic Alexis teases upcoming In Touch EP with minimalistic visual
San Holo's bitbird label consistently pumps out ethereal electronica, and Vic Alexis' new delicate visual for the first track off his upcoming 'In Touch' EP is no exception. The track, by the same name as the EP, is melancholy synth heaven with sparse verbiage. Twinkling with bitbird's signature warmth, the melodic song is a journey through []

Simon Reynolds meets Jlin I got part of my ideology from Coco Chanel
The footwork producer has taken influences from across the map to make dance music that sounds like nothing else. Is Jerrilynn Patton the future of electronica?Black Origami, the title of the new album by electronic warrior Jlin (real name Jerrilynn Patton), is a perfect analogy for her creative process. It always begins, she says, with nothing: no formula, no preconceptions, no sampled materials, just the blind urge to make. Origami, similarly, “starts out as a blank sheet of paper”, she explains. “Which you bend and fold, and then you end up with this beautiful, complex thing.” Jlin’s elegantly angular beat-constructions rather resemble origami’s blend of geometric planes and exquisite delicacy. “Taking simplicity and making it complex – I got that ideology from Coco Chanel,” she adds. The album title is an extension of an earlier and equally apt analogy that Jlin made on her 2015 debut Dark Energy, with the track Black Ballet. The ballerina’s movements look effortless and weightless, but the audience never sees the blood-soaked wraps around her feet or the stress damage to her spinal discs; likewise, listeners are transported by the eerie levitational grace of Jlin’s music but don’t hear the hundreds of agonized hours of detail-work and fanatical focus embedded in each track. Video In The Studio with JeanMichel Jarre Ableton Live Max for Live Tape Looping
FutureMusic magazine posted a fantastic video "In The Studio with Jean-Michel Jarre". It's really worth watching this 23 minute behind-the-scenes look at his process for a track for his upcoming Electronica 1: The Time Machine which will release on Oct 16th, 2015.
Electronic music icon Jarre invites us into his Paris studio to talk us through his new collaboration with Air. Get the full story of Jarre's first album in eight years, and see more of his studio, in the latest issue of Future Music: http://bit.ly/FMU297
I think this video will be especially inspiring to Ableton Live users out there as it ends up Jarre is a heavy user of Ableton Live, is a fan of many of Live's built-in FX and is even using the great Max for Live Convolution reverb.
In addition to using Live, plugins and hardware synths, Jarre shows us how he uses classic tape loop techniques that he learned back in the day while working under Pierre Schaeffer ("father" of musique concrète).

Review Underworld Don’t Need Your Nostalgia on ‘Barbara Barbara we face a shining future’
Underworld's transcendent Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future arrives in one of those windows of release-date alignments with anniversaries that further confirms the cyclical nature of music trends every 20-ish years (along with fashion and designer drugs) — in this case, what was dubbed "electronica" in the mid-'90s. In 2014, the U.K. festival vanguards reissued their 1993 rave-rock
