Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith The Kid review – a charming electronic exploration of life
(Western Vinyl)Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s last album, 2016’s EARS, was a suite essentially about wonderment. The one before, Euclid (2015), took its inspiration from geometry. Dry summaries like those don’t really do justice to the swirls and whorls of the LA-based MUSIC an’s ELECTRO acoustic work. Exeter Exeter EP
In the 21st century, ELECTRONIC MUSIC nd hip-hop have formed a co-dependent relationship; on his self-titled debut, Exeter exemplifies this in wonderful technicolour. Flouting any singular sound, the Toronto MUSIC an freely incorporates Italo disco, IDM, Golden Age hip-hop, video game soundtracks and post-Hudson Mohawke styles into this EP's six tracks. While many producers focus exclusively on beats, rhythms or melody, Exeter tries to highlight each element independently, expertly letting songs germinate in spots where most DJs would aim for the money shot.

Memory9 Red Falcon EP
One criticism often levelled at producers of electronic music is their perceived lack of musicality, that the relatively simple utilisation of technology has superseded the more traditional decades of slog it takes to become a skilled musician. Well, one artist who is surely immune to this crass, pretentious nonsense is Milanese producer Gadi Sassoon (a.k.a. Memory9).
Operating within the 160bpm template that is so beloved by producers this year, Memory9's music straddles the line between sound art and club-ready electronica. While it may bring to mind the woozy romantic ooze of Boards...Read More
